Job Summary:
Reporting to the Program Director, the the Child Grief Specialist will provide in-school grief support groups, specifically throughout St Joe County, Indiana. The position involves co-facilitating small groups of students who have experienced loss due to death, helping them process their grief in a supportive, non-judgmental, and safe environment. All grief training will be provided by Dustin's Place.
Responsibilities:
● Co-Facilitate Peer-to-Peer Grief Support Groups: Collaborate with a volunteer or staff member to facilitate students through grief support sessions held in local schools. Encourage open conversation and provide emotional support in a group setting fostering a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment for grieving students to share their experiences, emotions, and thoughts
● Build strong relationships: Work in partnership with school counselors and teachers to ensure the support groups are effective and aligned with the school's needs and schedule. Communicate with our volunteers and families to provide a safe and comfortable environment for group nights.
● Training and Development: Participate in all training and professional development provided by Dustin's Place to understand children’s grief and co-facilitate effectively.
● Advocate: Be an advocate for the grieving children and families that attend and will attend Dustin’s Place within the community through fundraising and events
Qualifications:
● Experience: Prior experience in counseling, social work, education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
● Compassion: A deep empathy for children and teens coping with grief and a passion for supporting others through difficult emotional experiences.
● Availability: Consistent availability during school hours (timing may vary by semester) and every other Monday evening for evening group sessions.
● Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with children and adolescents.
● Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other facilitators and school staff.
● Commitment to Training: Willingness to undergo grief support and facilitation training provided by Dustin’s Place. Availability to attend the National Symposium on Children’s Grief held annually. This year’s symposium is June 4-6, 2025 in Kansas City, MO
